First Draft Discussion Document. Stroud District Peoples’ Tree Forum

This idea has been initiated by Walking the Land artists in discussion with Nailsworth Town Council and Stroud Valleys Project. In the first instance this will coincide with Nailsworth Town Council’s tree planting commitments.

It stems from using art as a part of tree planting and arts projects, initially those being developed by Nailsworth Town Council in partnership with Stroud Valleys Project.

Remit

The basic idea is to provide a strategic context for tree planting in the district and a point of engagement and encouragement for anyone wanting to plant and care for trees.

It’s proposed that there are three facets to the forum.

  1. a technical and strategic network for exchange and learning about trees, community tree planting and aftercare
  2. a point of contact/directory /calendar for people wanting to take part in tree planting
  3. an evolving vision for and cultural involvement with tree planting activity across the district.

Ways of working

  • The Forum will initially be a project of xxx
  • xxx, xxx and xxx shall act as elders and moderators of the forum
  • XXX shall act as secretariat to the Forum
  • The Forum will hold two annual meetings, one to include practical tree planting. This could be hosted by any participant
  • Walking the Land will develop an identity – “We are Mycelia”, a web presence and appropriate social media in order to share information and grow the vision of people and trees
  • Initially our focus will be on memorialising trees and people.
